This innocent looking par 3 requires
an accurate short iron to the French Biarritz style green.
When the flagstick is placed at the back of the green, make sure you judge the
wind and stay short of the hole.
From a distance, the new Links at Piper's Glen Golf Club looks like a rugged, wind-swept field of a grasses and sand. Full of shadow and bumps, these ridges, hollows and bumps are actually a collection of golf holes. Strategically placed within these mound complexes are 18 flags, identifying the putting greens. You will find a combination of strategic interest, requiring a variety of golf shots. The ever-present wind will sweep cross the grasses, changing the golf course from day-to-day.
The Links at Piper's Glen, as with many great golf courses, will have idiosyncrasies that are different yet traditional, challenging yet 'fair'. Pot bunkers with sod-faced walls & sleeper faces each providing a look and feel unique to the hole. These 'features' will force emotion to be a large part of the game played here. 'Fair' will ultimately be determined by the course and the weather.
Skillful selection of turfgrasses will allow Piper's Glen to create an interesting and environmentally friendly mosaic of greens, browns and ever-changing natural grasses. This blend of color and texture will enhance the traditional Scottish look, design, and playability derived entirely from the various grasses, wood and assorted natural vegetations.
Course Statistics
Links 'Medal' Course 18-hole 6,411 Yards
A great golf course does not have to be 7,000+ yards. At Piper's Glen, all golfers will find the course is playable (occasionally) from all tee locations. This is due, in part, to the fact that a wayward shot can be followed by great shot. The 'links' style allows, nay challenges, the recovery shot, one of the greatest thrills in golf.
Firm, fast fairways will be wide and the golfer must decide early where to play his ball, not to land, but to roll, for the degree of bounce and roll of the ball must also be taken into account.
Large greens will dominate the plateaus, hollows and ridges; open to numerous shot types, it will be determined based upon your location on the 'hole'. A variety of interesting and challenging contoured greens and green complexes (for the entire 'approach zone' is what the golfer is hitting to and trying to avoid at the same time!), will dominate the game, As such, a large part of the game is either to or on the putting surface, and the contour green adds immeasurable interest to the game.
Taking golfers back to the roots of the game, each round at Piper's Glen will be full of variety, challenge and enjoyment. The 'bump and run' game is of pure joy, for the thrill of a shot is not only the flight through the air but every subsequent bounce and roll and undulation that it must cross.
The Links at Piper's Glen will provide a landscape suited to the game of golf, full of ambiance, beauty and atmosphere.
